Accused of using AI? Start with what already exists.
Preserve drafts and version history. Ask for a human review. Do not try to recreate a past writing record.
First, breathe. AI detectors can be wrong. A Stanford-affiliated study in Patterns (2023) tested seven detectors and found they wrongly flagged 61% of TOEFL essays written by non-native English speakers. A flag is not proof that you cheated. It is a statistical output that still needs fair human review.
If you are accused right now
- Keep what already exists. Preserve the original document, drafts, notes, sources, assignment instructions and version history. Do not manufacture or backfill evidence.
- Ask for a human review. Ask what rule is in question, which work is at issue, what other evidence was considered, and what review route is available.
- Explain the work. Bring the timeline, sources and drafting choices you can honestly describe. A person should weigh the whole picture.
- Involve an adult support person if your school begins a formal process. Use the parent guide to prepare for that conversation.
Use Receipts for future work, not to recreate the past.
The honest limit: Receipts cannot prove how a past essay was written if it was not recording at the time. Buying something today does not change that.
The free next step: start a new document in Receipts before you write. It can record the future process, but it cannot recreate or validate a past one.
For that next essay, Receipts records keystrokes, pauses, rewrites and pastes as you work. A shared link lets a teacher watch the document develop from a blank page. It gives them evidence to weigh, not a score or a verdict.

Recording, replay and proof links are free for every student, permanently. That is a promise written into the terms, not a trial.
What to show your teacher
If you already write in Receipts, send your proof link and this two minute guide for educators. It explains what the record shows, what it cannot prove and how to review it.
Limits: Receipts is not unforgeable, and a record cannot show that you did not look at another screen. It presents the supplied process for a person to review. No single signal should decide anything.
If your whole class keeps getting flagged
If an educator wants to evaluate Receipts before recommending it, point them to the free, voluntary one-class pilot and its limits: receiptsproof.com/schools. The core student workflow remains free.
Receipts parent guide
When your child is accused of using AI
Your job tonight is not to decide the whole case. It is to preserve what exists and make sure the school uses a fair, human process.
What to do today
- Hear the timeline without coaching it. Ask when and where the work was written, which tools were used and what help was received. Write down the answers in the student's own words.
- Preserve existing evidence. Keep the original document untouched. Save Google Docs or Word version history, drafts, notes, sources, assignment instructions and the accusation email. Do not manufacture or backfill evidence.
- Ask for specifics in writing. Request the exact rule said to be broken, the passages at issue, the detector and version used, its result, any evidence beyond that result, and the review and appeal process.
- Request human review. Offer the student's existing evidence of how it was written and ask for a meeting where the student can explain the argument, sources and drafting choices. Bring a parent, advisor or support person if policy allows.
A calm note you can send
Thank you for letting us know. We take academic integrity seriously and would like to understand the concern before any conclusion is reached. Please share the applicable rule, the work or passages at issue, the detector and result used, any other evidence considered, and the review or appeal process. We would also like the student's drafts and version history reviewed by a person and an opportunity for the student to explain the work.
What public Singapore university guidance says
- NUS policy on AI in teaching and learning says detector verdicts are not conclusive evidence for an academic dishonesty charge or a basis, by themselves, for penalising work.
- NTU's guidance on AI detector tools (CNA's report, 14 August 2026) calls for caution because of false positives, false negatives, patterns that are not unique to AI and bias against non-native writing.
- CNA, 24 August 2026 reports that SUSS disabled Turnitin's AI writing detection score on 11 August 2026, citing the limits of AI detection scores and focusing instead on whether a student can demonstrate understanding of and ownership over their work.
Where Receipts fits
For a past essay, start with evidence that already exists. Receipts cannot recreate or prove past writing. For future work it can record the process and replay it for a reviewer. That record is evidence, not a verdict; it is not unforgeable and cannot show what was on another screen. Student writing stays in the student's browser and, if they sign in, their own Google Drive. Receipts keeps no copy of the writing on company servers. Read the terms and privacy policy.
